The Leather Nun and Other Incredibly Strange Comics

The Leather Nun, as it is titled in the UK by Aurum Press, and titled Holy Sh*t: The World’s Weirdest Comic Books by St Martin’s Press, in the United States. Designed by Peter Stanbury, and written with his good friend Paul Gravett, they explore a rare collection of astonishing, weird and tasteless comic-books and their remarkable backgrounds. Replete with anecdotes of their eccentric creators, this compilation is marketed to have broad appeal as a humourous gift book. The pocket-size book has a hard case with a paper cover. The endpapers are collages of the many scattered comic-books. The interior paper is shiny to show of the bright colours. Inside the covers appear on all the right-hand pages of the parade and bleed for maximum impact. They also show the distress of things well-read and enjoyed. The cover image is by renowned American illustrator, Charles Burns, and Peter has added particular covers from within the book into the image.
“The perfect gift for any comic-book lover, or pervert, in your life.” Jonathan Ross
